Do I have to have an active membership to get access to the Y?
An active membership or program registration is required to access the Y. Non-member program participants are able to sign up for live and virtual programs.
Are guests allowed?
At this time guests, nationwide membership and rentals are not allowed.
Will I need to make a reservation?
Reservations will currently be needed for areas like the Duffy Wellness Center. You can schedule your visit here.
Where can I find my bar code?
Your bar code is on the back of your membership card or you may have it stored in the Y's app.
What safety protocols will I be required to follow while at the Y?

What is the health assessment?
Before access is allowed, all staff, members, volunteers and program participants will be required to complete a health assessment which includes a temperature check and screening questions.
Why do I have to do the health assessment?
Your safety - and the safety of everyone in our building and programs - is our number one priority. We are taking every precaution we can to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19. Temperature checks and health surveys are among the CDC's recommended mitigation strategies.
What happens if I answer yes to any of the questions?
If you answer yes to any of the questions, you will be asked not to return to the Y until you have been:
- Fever (without aid of medication) free for 24 hours AND 10 days since symptoms first appeared or since swabbed for a test that yielded a positive result AND other symptoms have improved.
- OR you have received a negative COVID-19 test OR a doctor's note indicating an alternative non-COVID-19 diagnosis.
If you have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 you will not be able to return to the Y for at least 14 days after close contact with the sick/symptomatic individual OR the individual displaying COVID-19 symptoms receives a negative COVID-19 test. You will be encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 and we request that you notify us if you test positive.
What happens after I pass the health assessment?
You will scan yourself into the YMCA and, once checked in, can proceed to your scheduled activity.
Why do I have to wear a face covering except while swimming?
It is a requirement of Executive Order 2020-175 and MDHHS.
What if I can't wear a face covering or mask because of a medical condition?
Individuals with a disability that prevents wearing a face mask or covering will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
What happens if I don't want to follow the Y's safety protocols?
Membership and participants who fail to comply with Y's policies and procedures are putting others at risk. They may be asked to leave the facility. Refusal to comply with protocols as stated in the code of conduct may result in membership suspension and even termination.
Will I be notified if someone who has used the Y or works at the Y tests positive for COVID-19?
We will notify anyone at the Y who may have had prolonged or close contact with someone who has recently tested positive. The new check in and scheduling requirements are ways that will ensure this.
Does the Y have new hours?
Yes, these hours allow our staff extra time to clean and sanitize the facility for you as we reopen. We will continue to review the hours and make adjustments as needed.
With these new hours, how will the Y ensure that it doesn't become crowded?
Social distancing and capacity limits under various executive orders have lead to limited capacity in most programs and services. Equipment has either been removed or shut off in the Duffy Wellness Center to ensure appropriate spacing while working out. There are limitations to the number of people in the pool at one time. Group exercise classes have designated spots to ensure appropriate social distancing.
How long will it take to check in?
After the first visit, the check in process may take 5-10 minutes depending on how many people arrive at the same time.
Do I need to bring my own equipment, like a mat for yoga?
Yes - bring your own equipment, water bottle and towel.
Why do I have to sign a new waiver and code of conduct?
Language in the waiver has been updated due to COVID-19 and we are asking members to sign that they will follow the code of conduct.
