The YMCA of the Blue Water Area, an institution committed to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility, is pleased to announce that they will host a “Night of Champions” on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
The event, a fundraiser to benefit the YMCA, will begin at 6:00 p.m. Don Fletcher, YMCA Foundation Chairman for the YMCA of the Blue Water Area, made the announcement. Eight time national Emmy award winning announcer, spanning a 47 year career that began with the IHL’s Port Huron Flags, Mike “Doc” Emrick as well as some surprise special guests are scheduled to attend the event. The “Night of Champions” will be held at the McMorran Arena in downtown Port Huron. The Hockey-themed event will feature pregame festivities, fun hockey activities, food from local Port Huron establishments as well as silent and live auctions.
“This Night of Champions event provides us with a wonderful opportunity to raise positive awareness for the many ways the YMCA of the Blue Water Area strengthens our community,” said Fletcher. “We are thrilled to have “Doc” as our special guest to describe his experiences as an award winning broadcaster, early days with the Port Huron Flags, Olympic hockey & water polo coverage, and how teamwork and commitment to a common goal help achieve greatness. In addition, this amazing gentlemen and his wife Joyce, quietly support animal causes in their community, including donating proceeds from Doc’s autobiography to “creatures of all kinds”. This type of social responsibility and dedication is a message that is true to the mission of the Y.”
“Earning his nickname after receiving his PhD in Radio/TV/Film from Bowling Green State University; Doc is still active with NBC, and we’re just ecstatic to have him headline this night of champions”, said Fletcher.

Tickets for the event floor must be purchased in advance and are available at the YMCA of the Blue Water Area at 1525 3rd Street in Port Huron or from event table captains.
